PV hybrid plant and Sunny Island X ready BESS platform

Sabu Island is now powered by a state-of-the-art SMA hybrid system that operates fully automatically, integrates a large-scale PV plant without batteries at this stage, and keeps the genset above its minimum load. 

As Indonesia`s first Sunny Island X ready BESS platform, the system is designed to anticipate future needs by enabling battery and PV expansion, diesel-off operation during high renewable generation, and load shifting when system dynamics, fuel prices, or reliability and efficiency requirements change. 

SMA Altenso contributed proven expertise in system design, commissioning, and optimization to ensuring smooth and reliable plant operation. The hybrid energy system generates 2,369 MWh of clean electricity annually, saving approximately 634,333 liters of fuel and avoiding around 1,694 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
