Powering Finland's clean energy transition
SMA Altenso and Infinergies collaborate on grid-scale battery storage in Finland
April, 2026—SMA Altenso GmbH has entered into a strategic partnership with Infinergies Finland Oy. The partnership aims to develop and implement innovative, large-scale battery storage projects. This collaboration is designed to support Finland’s rapidly evolving energy landscape, with both companies joining forces to drive the expansion of energy infrastructure across the region.

Strengthening the Finnish grid with advanced technology
The collaboration combines SMA Altenso’s deep engineering expertise and grid-forming technology with Infinergies’ established market presence in Northern Europe. Together, the companies will focus on advancing BESS projects from the planning phase through to successful commissioning and operation.
Finland is currently one of Europe’s most dynamic markets for energy storage, driven by:
Renewable growth: Rapidly increasing wind and solar capacity requires flexible balancing to maintain system integrity.
Price volatility: Rising electricity price fluctuations are creating a strong business case for high-capacity storage.
Infrastructure security: There is a growing necessity for EU-manufactured technology that meets the highest cybersecurity and grid-stability standards.
About the role of Altenso
Altenso, a wholly owned subsidiary of SMA Solar Technology AG, is responsible for the co‑development, construction, and operation and maintenance (O&M) of the large-scale battery storage system. Acting as a technology partner and holistic solution provider, Altenso will deliver the project as the full EPC contractor.
The EPC scope includes medium- and high-voltage construction, delivery of the substation and transformer, as well as the grid connection.
Infinergies Finland Oy acts as the development partner, contributing strong local market expertise.
